Oil-Cooled Power Transformers

Oil-Cooled Power Transformers

The transformer is a static electromagnetic device that has two or more inductively coupled coils; transformers are designed to transfer electric energy from the primary alternating-current circuit to the secondary alternating current circuit by means of electromagnetic induction. The Ural Company for Transformer Technologies (UZTT) manufactures and sells oil-cooled power transformers - TM, TMG, TMZ, TMGF, and TMB.

Oil-Cooled Power Transformer: Manufacturing

The power transformer is used to transform electrical energy in electrical systems and installations designed to receive and use electrical energy.

UZTT has its own facilities for manufacturing of oil-cooled (oil-immersed) power transformers. Power transformers that are used for substations made at the UZTT factory convert alternating current of one voltage into alternating current of another voltage required for power supply of consumers. Depending on application, power transformers can be step-up or step-down transformers.
High voltage: 10 kV or 6 kV.
Low voltage: 0.4 kV or 0.23 kV.
Capacity: 25, 40, 63, 100, 160, 250, 400, 630, 1000, 1600, and 2500 kVA.

Transformer's characteristics:

Power transformers are designed for 6 kV or 10 kV rated voltage of the primary winding. The rated voltage of the secondary winding is 0.4 kV or 0.23 kV. The diagram and connection group of windings is U/Un-0 or D/Un-11.
Oil-cooled power transformers have certificate of conformity No. ROSS RU.AV28.V00284.
Oil-Cooled Power Transformer

Oil-cooled transformers of this type operate in 6 kV or 10 kV electric networks in outdoor installations in temperate climates (configuration U1 in compliance with GOST 15150-69) and are used to decrease high voltage of the supply network to the specified consumer voltage. Transformers of TMB type are used for electric supply of electrical equipment of drilling rigs; TME transformers are mounted on excavator platforms to supply electricity to their equipment. TMF transformers are used for flange mounting.

In terms of capacity the transformers of this family are classified as:

 - step-down oil-cooled transformers (from 6 kV to 0.4 kV): 16 kVA, 25 kVA, 40 kVA, 63 kVA, 100 kVA, 160 kVA, 250 kVA, 400 kVA, 630 kVA, 1000 kVA, 1600 kVA, 2500 kVA, 10/0.4 kV, 6/0.4 kV, 10/6 kV;

 - step-up oil-cooled transformers, voltage: 0.4/10 kV, 0.4/6 kV, 6/10 kV.

General description of transformers:

Generally, the secondary ac system can be different from the primary system in any parameters: number of phases, current and voltage values, frequency, and current (voltage) curve. Most applied in electrical installations as well as in power transmission and distribution systems are power transformers that are used to change alternating current and voltage values, while retaining frequency, number of phases and voltage/current curve unchanged.

General-purpose transformers are used in power transmission and distribution lines as well as in various electrical installations, providing the required voltage.

Special-purpose transformers have a wider range of operating characteristics and configurations. Such transformers include welding, metering, furnace and other transformers.

The standard power transformer consists of magnetic core made of ferromagnetic material and two coils located on core legs. The primary coil or winding is connected to the alternating current voltage source, while the secondary winding is connected to the consumer. The primary and secondary windings are not connected electrically with each other; the power is transferred electromagnetically from one winding to the other. The magnetic core that accommodates the primary and secondary windings serves to intensify electromagnetic coupling field between the windings.

The transformer operation is based on electromagnetic induction. The connection of the primary winding to the ac source causes current flow in the coils that, in its turn, creates varying magnetic flux in the core. This flow links with the primary and secondary windings, inducing a varying electromotive force (EMF). The primary winding has self-inductance EMF, whereas the secondary winding has mutual inductance EMF.

Transformers are invertible; one and the same transformer can be used both as a step-down and step-up transformer.

Transformers are classified:

By application - power, welding, furnace, pulse, metering and other transformers

By cooling type  - air-cooled or oil-cooled transformers

By number of phases - single-phase or three-phase transformers

By magnetic circuit (the core) - shell, toroidal, bar-type, shell and bar-type transformers

By number of windings - double-winding, multiple-winding transformers
